Hum 3218: Humanism and the Humanities

Hum 3218 fulfills the undergraduate upper-division writing requirement

This course traces the development of the idea of humanism from its pre-Greek form in the Ancient Near East to the present day. Students become familiar with the central works of humanistic literature and art from each period, as well as the evolution of the concept of “human rights.”

This course is typically, though not always, offered once per academic year.
